Custom Millwork
Furniture
Two families came to live together in this three-bedroom apartment, bringing along their needs and belongings. A design program was developed centered around functionality and organization. Millwork pieces were designed to support a variety of spaces throughout the apartment. A collection of art, Judaica and family heirlooms was studied in order to organize, store, showcase, and complement it in a sensible way.
We took cues from the natural light flooding every room, as well as the apartment’s material palette, to design custom millwork pieces that subtly blended in. The formal qualities of their art and furniture collection also guided us in the selection and installation of complementary furnishings.
A multifunctional piece was designed to both showcase and store away objects. Display cabinets, with glass doors framed to limit airflow, highlight the Judaica and Pre-Columbian Art collections when placed against the backlit and dark-colored back panels. A variety of closed cabinets provided space for storage, entertainment and hosting.

Two opposing walls of a 7’x7’ room were outfitted with custom millwork pieces, transforming this small space into a highly functional and comfortable home office. The desk area was designed to provide a work surface and a variety of storage options for improved organization and ease of use.

The simplicity in design and its subtle integration with the existing spaces helped highlight the beautiful views of New York City and its bay, which can be seen from every room in the house.
